Have You Visited The Bonsai Garden At Lake Merritt?

I have not personally visited the Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt, but if I ever make it out to California, I would love to.

Have you visited the garden?

I have been scrolling through some of the bonsai images of their collection, and they have some really amazing bonsai. Kathy Shaner is the curator of the garden. I once participated in a bonsai workshop with Kathy in Chicago. She really is a hoot.

The website itself is a bit dated with missing images and a few other things, but it does appear to be kept up to date with relevant information.

I wanted to share 2 of the bonsai that I found interesting to me so far.

Ponderosa Pine #276

I love Ponderosa Pine bonsai, so naturally, I love this tree. Dan Robinson donated this one to BGLM. You can see more info and images of this tree here. Ponderosa Pine (276) I would love to see updated photos if anyone has them.

California Juniper #418

I once saw a California Juniper bonsai in Chicago and fell in love with the foliage.

This particular image was taken in 2017. I would love to see how the tree looks now. I can imagine it all refined and cleaned up, and I want to see it.

The Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt is located at 650 Bellevue Ave in Oakland, CA (near the Lakeside Garden Center). Remember that if you are in the area.

If you have been to this garden, I want to see your photos. Below is a video I found of the garden—such a beautiful place. One day I hope to get there and see this amazing collection.
